I grew up watching my mother drape a saree. The pleats counted out against her fingers, the pin at the shoulder, one turn to the mirror — and she knew. To me that was never simply getting dressed. It was a woman deciding how she wanted the world to see her that day.

But buying a saree rarely felt like that. Bolts pulled out from behind a glass counter. Someone talking over you while you’re still deciding. A price with an older, bigger number struck out beside it, so you’d feel lucky. You would walk out holding something you weren’t sure about — and months later it would still be in the cupboard, still folded.

I wanted to build the opposite of that room. Somewhere you can feel the fabric before you commit to it. Somewhere you can ask is this too heavy for an afternoon wedding? and get an honest answer instead of a sales pitch. Nobody hovering, nobody rushing you, and no discount invented on the spot.

So we began small — a few sarees at a time, chosen one by one, photographed at home and shared on Instagram. Women in Raipur took a chance on us. Then they came back. Then they brought their sisters, their mothers, their friends before a wedding season. That trust is what turned a small collection into a boutique on Shankar Nagar.

It is still run by women who wear sarees every day. When we tell you how something will sit after three hours at a function, it’s because we have worn it for three hours at a function. And when a saree isn’t right for you, we say so — we would rather you leave with nothing than with regret.
